Deliveroo Spills the ‘Beans’ on Kuwait for International Coffee Day

4 October 2022: In celebration of International Coffee Day on the 1st of October, Deliveroo surveyed locals all around Kuwait to gain some insight as to why coffee is so popular and reveal exciting upcoming coffee trends.

Traditional + Local: a Recipe for Success Whether it’s artisanal or home-brewed, one thing is for sure: there’s bound to be a perfect cup of coffee for everyone.

It’s no secret that Turkish coffee remains a fan favorite in Kuwait, with many loving the unique flavor profile that Turkish coffee offers.

In Kuwait, most respondents said they preferred the more traditional taste of Turkish coffee, with a whopping 25% of coffee lovers choosing it over other alternatives. That’s not to say that Turkish coffee was for everyone, with milk-based coffees also making the list of people’s favorites. According to Deliveroo’s survey, cappuccinos and lattes came in second and third respectively, with 13% of respondents preferring cappuccinos and 9% of respondents choosing lattes. Moreover, when asked about the flavors they enjoyed in their coffee, almost one-third of respondents chose cardamom, preferring the fragrant regional spice over flavors like caramel, hazelnut, and chocolate.

Coffee + Chocolate: The Perfect Pairing When asked how people prefer to take their cup of coffee, 31% of respondents indicated that they enjoyed their coffee with a piece of chocolate, balancing the bitterness of the coffee with the sweetness of the chocolate. Sweet coffee pairings are popular in Kuwait, with 17% of people also indicating that they prefer to enjoy their coffee with a slice of cake. Savory pairings also made the list, with 10% of respondents opting for croissants with their coffee. No matter what the pairing, one thing is certain: coffee goes with everything!

Bring on the New Flavors Almost 70% of people also said they were experimental when it comes to their cups of coffee, and open to trying new flavors. While Kuwait boasts multiple coffee vendors for people to choose from, respondents also indicated that they would be open to even more variety in terms of flavor profiles, or even new brewing techniques. In contrast, almost 30% of respondents said they were not experimental when it comes to coffee, preferring their tried-and-true cups over trying something new.

The Perfect Roast Whether you prefer the strong and intense flavor of a dark roast, the well-rounded and balanced flavor of a medium roast, or the mellow body and brightness of a light roast, picking your favorite coffee roast is an important decision. In Kuwait, almost 75% of people preferred a medium roast, opting for coffee blends with a medium acidity and body and delicate sweetness. In turn, 10% of respondents indicated they preferred the fruitiness of a light roast, and 16% preferred the bitterness of a dark roast.

Whether you are planning a coffee date with a friend, or brewing your favorite cup of joe at home, one thing is for sure: coffee is the daily treat that most of us just can’t get enough of!
